who we are

The Parish Church

Nestled by the Great Ouse, St James' Church with its characteristic truncated spire.

St James' Church embraces a rich diversity of worship whilst maintaining its identity as part of the Church of England.  It is part of the Huntingdon and Wisbech Archdeaconry which is in the west of Ely Diocese.

Sixty percent of the congregation live in the village, the others are drawn from St Ives the nearest small town, and from many of the surrounding villages.

St James' has a strong evangelical heritage and a commitment to giving, rather than fund raising, which has seen God's undoubted blessing over the past 45 years.

All our services reflect the structures provided in Common Worship.  The early Sunday services have the most formal feel with hymns accompanied by the organ.  The later services are usually more informal, and contemporary; worship is accompanied by a band.  Children are welcome at all services and Junior Church takes place each Sunday with the exception of the first Sunday when we have a Family Service.

The evening service is open to all and has a contemporary feel.  Generally Holy Communion is at one or other service on a Sunday morning.

The church welcomes all that God brings to it through the person and work of the Holy Spirit and holds strongly to its commitment to the reading and teaching of the Bible as the authoritative Word of God.

The church is open during daylight hours every day of the week.  The churchyard has been closed to burials for over 100 years but there is a Garden of Remembrance, for the internment of cremated remains, and a Book of Remembrance on display inside the church.
