The Old School House—St James' Parish Centre for the last 100 years.

Situated in the centre of the village, the Parish Centre is very much at the working heart of the old village.  The rooms and facilities of the Parish Centre are used every day of the week for church-based activities and by the village community.  These can be booked through our Parish Office at reasonable rates.

The centre comprises one large meeing room with two smaller rooms and a fully functional kitchen.  There is also a reception area and Post Office, open every day, and office space for our Parish Administrator, Youth Minister and Worship Minister

Community coffee shop – what is it?

St James Church PCC intend to build a permanent coffee shop in St James Parish Centre (extending behind the Post Office) and have committed £35,000 to the project.

How will it work? Like the Post Office, coffee shop (working name, The Garden Room) will be run under the church, as a not-for-profit business. The aim of this project is not to make money for the church but, to serve our community in new ways.

The Garden Room will be far more than a coffee shop. It will be a community hub where everyone can feel welcome, regardless of age or affiliation to village groups. Electronic information screens will provide an excellent opportunity for our local businesses to advertise and for our village societies to communicate with us all. There will also be free WIFI and dedicated laptops for use by those without internet access at home.  And they’ll be so much more besides!

Where is the project up to?

Following an extensive consultation period, plans are now finalised and planning permission has been obtained.  A copy of the floor plans is available on this website.

Target to proceed reached!!

Thank you to all who have given.

We are ready to start building as soon.

Want to know more?  A copy of the plans is available on this website, along with a displayed at the back of the church and in the parish centre throughout the summer.

How to Donate

Cash or cheque donations can be handed in at the Post Office in an envelope marked The Garden Room Fund.  Cheques should be made payable to 'St James Parish Church, Hemingford Grey'.
